No plan to include a private sector in nuclear power generation  : Jitendra singh

NEW DELHI :  The Central Government has said today,” The electricity production from nuclear power in the last two financial year 2014-15 and 2015-16 was 37835 Million Units (MUs) and 37456 MUs respectively. This production remains part of both commercial and non-commercial.

In a written reply to the question asked in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday,Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said, that The electricity production in 2014-15 comprised of 35592 MU of commercial generation and 2243 MU of non commercial production, while the entire production in 2015-16 was commercial.

On the question of private sector participation in nuclear power production, he said that Government has no proposal for private sector participation in nuclear power generation in the country. However, private sector is involved in a big way in nuclear power sector, in supply of components & equipment, execution of large work packages and in provision of services.
