Electrification of border villages to be completed soon

  • Meghalaya Government asks Assam to allow completion

GUWAHATI :The government of Meghalaya has asked the government of Assam to allow completion of electrification works in two villages along the border area of the two states, informed Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma at the state assembly.

Assam police has stopped this ongoing project due to law and oprder

problems earlier

The concerned villages are Mawdiangsnam and Umyiap in Langpih area of

West Khasi Hills District.

Chief secretary requested for for border electrification

The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, on March 29, requested his Assamese

counterpart to instruct the Assam Police to allow completion of the works in the region.

It may be mentioned that the Assam Police had stopped the electrification

work under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana on February 25.

The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District on March 16 ordered

resumption of the work but the Assam Police of Kamrup district stopped it again.
